Electrodeposition workflow
Track e-coating loads from pretreatment to inspection.
E-coating applies a coating by electrodeposition: parts are immersed and an electrical current deposits the coating. It has its own route, bath-stage handoffs and oven-cure instructions—distinct from wet spray. Keep the job requirements easy to follow from receiving to final inspection.

From receiving to closeout
Keep load identity and bath-stage handoffs clear
Keep job instructions, department handoffs and required records together from receiving through shipment.
- 01At receiving, identify the order, parts, substrate and customer requirements that will guide the route.
- 02Keep pretreatment instructions and any required hold points with the job before the load moves forward.
- 03Identify the rack or load and make each bath-stage handoff clear to the next department.
- 04Keep the specified film requirements and oven-cure instructions visible with the work.
- 05Record inspection results, exceptions and closeout documents against the job and lot.
Check the work your shop runs
Can the workflow handle your jobs?
- How will receiving identify parts, lots and customer-specific e-coat requirements?
- Can the traveler show the rack/load identity and handoffs between pretreatment, coating and subsequent stages?
- Where will the specified film requirements and approved oven instructions be available to the team?
- Which inspection, rework and closeout records do you need to retain with each job?
E-coating FAQ
Questions about e-coating jobs
How is e-coating different from wet spray?
E-coating deposits coating through an electrodeposition process in an immersion bath. Wet spray applies liquid coating by spraying. Their job instructions, equipment, handoffs and cure requirements differ, so they should be represented as distinct routes.
What information should an e-coat job carry?
Start with the customer specification, part and substrate identification, pretreatment requirements, rack/load details, specified film requirements, oven instructions, inspection and closeout records.
Does software control the e-coat bath or oven?
Discuss the records and handoffs your team needs. Process control and approved operating instructions remain part of your shop’s process; do not assume a software workflow controls equipment.
Can we review e-coat alongside other finishing routes?
Yes. Bring the route you run and the stages that matter to your operation. Setup and workflow scope are discussed before commitment.
